Alyssa Vingan On The Fall Trends That Are About To Dominate Your Feed

NYLON’s EIC takes cues from Parisian street style.

Parisian fashion has forever been one of the world’s go-to style influences, but H&M’s fall offering brings a new twist to the city’s classic, refined style. The retailer’s latest arrivals introduce Brasserie Hennes, a fictional fashion destination that encapsulates the ease of Parisian cafe culture. It’s a “fantastical place… where our fall/winter 2022 collection shines,” says H&M creative advisor Ann-Sofie Johansson; Brasserie Hennes subverts the exclusive fashion scene to reach shoppers around the world — making the impossible possible.

The new selection is full of fall style inspiration, and to help narrow down exactly which trends are about to be all over your feed, we asked NYLON’s editor-in-chief Alyssa Vingan to curate her favorite looks. Whether it’s pairing ’90s grunge staples like chunky combat boots with elegant tailoring or making sequins a neutral for day and night, she shares her go-to fall trends inspired by the campaign, below.

Chunky Knits

Sweater season is by far my favorite time of year to shop,” Vingan shares. “A chunky knit can add so much personality to even the most basic look.” With a preference for bright colors and eye-catching patterns — think: an oversized green cardigan (which she’d wear over a band tee) or a bold black and white striped pullover — her goal for her fall wardrobe is clear: to make a serious statement.

‘90s Minimalism

It’s no secret that the ‘90s are back, and with the resurgence is a renewed appreciation for minimalist style. Layering a simple white T-shirt under a black babydoll dress is a timeless fall trend,” says Vingan. “With this classic combo as a blank canvas, you can accessorize any way you’d like to let your personal style really shine.” Looking to H&M’s fall campaign, she’s pairing hers with chunky loafers for a grunge-inspired finish.

Day-to-Night Disco

For Vingan, the return to IRL nightlife has her itching to pile on the party clothes — and with that, comes pieces that bring the shine. She says: “Sequins are a surprisingly neutral fall staple that can amp up an otherwise subtle daytime look,” like layering a metallic mini skirt over a classic white collared shirt dress. “Or, if you’re planning a night on the town, go for head-to-toe sparkle, like this silver asymmetric mini dress,” she adds, styled with a coordinating bedazzled ear cuff. For maximum versatility — and boldness — she suggests “using your party dress as a layering piece during the day by throwing a knit on top and adding some flat boots.”
