The first major red carpet of 2026 is in, and so is our new list.

We made it to 2026, and it’s not only the coldest winter in recent memory: It’s a winter full of awards — and the dresses worn to accept them. Long gone are the days of celebrities, say, buying several dresses for promotional junkets and calling on designers for one special gown. No: We are in the midst of a custom-clothing boon, with A-listers signaling both their immaculate taste and ties to specific luxury houses with bespoke clothing for all manner of events, from the smallest of dinners all the way to the Oscars.

Since the stakes have never been higher or more globally attuned, and the effort never more palpable from stars and their glam teams, why not add to the fun with a power ranking? Getting dressed and looking one’s best is not a competition — lest we forget, these stars are actually stepping out to vie for acting trophies — but we’ve decided to do an entirely unscientific and vibes-based ranking, starting with the Gotham Awards in New York and concluding with the biggest night in Hollywood. We’ll update with the latest looks from universally attended events — most recent on our docket is the Critics Choice Awards — and explain why who ended up where on our list. For now, keep scrolling to see who caught our attention and double taps on Instagram.

Previous ranking: N/A

Deutch served pixie in Nouvelle Vague as Jean Seberg, and on the red carpets and at awards-season events, she’s been serving bob. It works with her architectural, playful fashion, like this 1920s-inspired Prada gown that is a breath of fresh air in a room of tightly corseted column gowns.

Previous ranking: 9

The man behind the most viral movie marketing of the year knows his fashion, and for a double whammy of two events with partner Kylie Jenner as his plus-one, he wore the same nipped-in blazer and wide-leg pant silhouette. With a fresh close-crop cut and his acne-free face (sorry, Gwyneth), he knows how to rise to the awards-season occasion.

08Emma Stone

Previous ranking: N/A

Will she get her sixth Oscar nomination for Bugonia? We hope so, because Stone turned up and turned it out on the Golden Globes carpet. The simplicity of this yellow Louis Vuitton on anyone else would read as drab, but she owns it with pitch-perfect hair and makeup — and yes, a visible six-pack.

07Jennifer Lawrence

Previous ranking: 4

It’s no surprise that we are obsessed with J. Law’s innate sense of style, and her commitment to Dior is also getting a refresh (à la K. Stew and Chanel) with the appointment of Jonathan Anderson to the label. But at the Golden Globes, with almost a dozen people in Dior, she went the other direction and picked this body-revealing Givenchy. Jury’s still out on the color choice, but the naked dressing and excellent hair have us going back for second and third looks.

One of the prettiest faces of the moment, and of the awards season, is a Louis Vuitton girl through and through. While her Golden Globes sculptural Vuitton moment made our best-dressed list, this adorable Oscar de la Renta was one of our favorite from the weekend-long sprint through pre-Globes events.

05Tessa Thompson

Previous ranking: 10

Just like that weird Taylor Swift lyric about Charlie Puth, we declared Tessa Thompson should be a bigger artist. Her street style has directly informed our shopping habits this fall, and on the red carpet, she brings an old-school flair and penchant for drama to every look. Her green fish-scale Balenciaga dress was the most interesting classic column gown at the Golden Globes, brought into the Instagram age with very contemporary hair.

04Renate Reinsve

Previous ranking: 8

The Norwegian actor best known for her work with Joachim Trier is back with a tear-jerking performance in Sentimental Value — which we think will get her an Oscar nom — and more delicious fashion moments. Her relationship with Louis Vuitton means lots of custom dresses that are works of architecture in themselves — including this gunmetal, hand-beaded strapless gown she wore at the Globes — and demand little to no further adornment.

03Eva Victor

Previous ranking: 3

Victor’s directorial debut, Sorry, Baby, is one of NYLON’s favorite films of the year, and their streamlined approach to dressing has found its fit with both Loewe and stylist Danielle Goldberg. Victor always looks like the most natural, effortlessly cool version of themself, like in this scarlet strapless Loewe dress that, on anyone else, would read too simple, but works with their long lines and stunning collarbones.

02Elle Fanning

Previous ranking: 1

Fanning, like Reinsve, delivers a grounded, striking performance in Sentimental Value, and also knows how important humanity is in her fashion. She’s previously debuted Sarah Burton’s Givenchy at the Oscars and has ties to brands like Coach and Gucci, but she’s not afraid to play the field, something that works in her favor. All her looks have an air of Old Hollywood about them, but she brings them into the 21st century with modern glam and just the right touch of accessories. Case in point: The cornflower-blue Gucci dress she wore to the Golden Globes was brought into 2026 with straight, Cali-girl hail and a geometric Cartier necklace.

Previous ranking: 2

What better outfit to win her first Golden Globe in than this scintillating, body-con Schiaparelli? The hair was perfectly coiffed, makeup heavy yet not drowning out her killer cheekboones, and the addition of the whale-tail diamond-covered bow? Schiaparelli knew to wrap her like the present she is.
